Song Quote of the Day
The Old Laughing Lady, OK, I can do that one [responding to a request]. It's always good for a few laughs. I write such happy songs. I wrote this song in Detroit though. Well, it's better than writing it in Newfoundland I guess. Yeah, I wrote this song in the White Tower Inn. You know Peter don't you - Bowen? Yeah, a couple years ago, about three, four years ago I guess, him and I we were at the Chess Mate Club. On Lavorondry or something, on Livernois, I don't know, how should I know? We were watching Jim and Jean. I think what happened was ... oh yeah, I know what happened. We came out after the club had closed to get in the car and the car wouldn't start. And we opened up the hood and there wasn't any engine in it - hahaha - it's a bad area, very bad - haha. No, I don't think they took the whole engine, but they took most it though. Anyways, we had to wait all night to go to this Volkswagen place were they replaced engines in twenty minutes. It's a groovy thing about a Volkswagen (Hitler was prepared). I was in the White Tower Inn across the street. There were a bunch of hookers and some cops and a few other guys. We were just guzzling down coffees, waiting for dawn, waiting nine o'clock. What a bummer that was. I'll never forget that. That was before Springfield or before anything, back there in the good old days. Anyway, I just jotted this down on a napkin - it's really quite folkie the way I did it. Yeah, that's what I did. Then a couple weeks later, I wrote the melody for it because I didn't have my guitar with me in the White Tower.
